Dark Sky Looms over Barn by Gary Hamburgh - All Rights Reserved
Shooting barns in the Palouse can be rewarding at any time of year. In the winter the element of snow really adds to the scene especially when there is a dark sky for contrast. The key for your image to be effective is to find a barn that is isolated so a winter vastness is created.
The barn pictured above is located in the rolling hills at the base of the Blue Mountains in eastern Washington. The image contains the elements of a dark threatening sky, wide open space in snow fields and the barn which is prominent in the foreground. By finding these conditions and including them in your photo, an image is created that stands out in a landscape of winter whiteness.
Remember a visit to the Palouse in winter can provide that opportunity for you.
